Star Trek, the entertainment franchise, is the source that started it all, without which there is no Arcadia.
While it's the basic inspiration (out-of-character), the franchise is also an in-world element, upon which Federation society and the entire known universe was built, enabled via temporal communication: sending information about "the Star Trek future" into the past, thus inspiring the franchise (an example of a temporal loop).
In original continuity, the UFS Arcadia encountered the Star Trek phenomenon when visiting a parallel Earth where Star Trek: Arcadia was only fiction. ("Reverse Course")
Since Star Trek characters, places and events are fictitious, details depicted in various Trek television shows & films may not have happened exactly the same in Arcadia continuity. Canon characters, in Arc history, may be clones, genetic duplicates, or happen to resemble the actors who portrayed them.
- This accounts for numerous continuity deviations, as well as a recurring theme of breaking the "fourth wall", blurring the line between fiction and reality.
