The Common Era (abbreviated CE), beginning 2063 on Earth's Gregorian calendar, was unofficially known as the "Cochrane Era", after Zefram Cochrane's first warp flight, April 5 2063 (Common Era year 1 corresponded to April 5 2063-April 5 2064 on the old calendar), which ushered the warp age. Common Era dating replaced the more provincial Gregorian calendar, which dated events strictly on Earth, while following roughly the same dating system, based on Earth orbital periods, since Earth was the most central planet in Federation affairs.
Common Era dating was officially adopted with the Federation's founding in 98 CE, but remained widely unrecognized until as late as the 4th century ce.
- To obtain a Common Era year, subtract 2063 from the desired year; 2409 - 2063 = 346 CE. Note: There is no "year 0". Years preceding the Common Era would be marked BCE (Before Common Era) or PCE (Pre[ceding]-Common Era).
